Videos are everywhere now. You’re constantly recording moments, saving clips, collecting memories. But here’s the thing – most people have no idea where those videos actually go or how to find them when they need them. Let’s fix that right now.
Where Your Videos Actually Live
When you record a video on your phone, it doesn’t disappear into some mysterious void. It goes somewhere specific. And once you know where, you’ll wonder why you were ever confused about it.
On Android:
Your videos are in the “Gallery” or “Google Photos” app, just like photos. But they’re also sometimes in a separate “Videos” folder, depending on your phone. Open your Gallery and look for a “Videos” section or filter.
On iPhone:
Open the “Photos” app and look for videos in your library. iPhone automatically sorts videos separately if you want, or you can see everything mixed together.
The key thing? Videos take up way more space than photos. So they’re important to find and manage.
Step by Step: How to Access Your Videos
Android:
- Open “Gallery” or “Google Photos”
- Look for a “Videos” folder or section
- If you don’t see a Videos folder, tap on the menu (three lines)
- Look for “Videos” option
- Tap a video to watch it
- Hold down to see sharing, saving, or deleting options
iPhone:
- Open “Photos” app
- Click “Library” at the bottom
- Scroll down until you see “Videos” section
- All your videos are organized there

How to Find Old Videos
Your phone has been recording videos for months or years. They’re all mixed in there somewhere. Here’s how to actually find what you’re looking for.
Search by Date:
Both Android and iPhone organize videos by date. If you know roughly when you recorded something, scroll to that time period and it should be there.
Search by Folder:
Some videos go to different folders depending on what app recorded them. A video from WhatsApp might be in a different place than one you recorded with the camera app.
Android: Check your main Gallery, but also check WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube folders separately
iPhone: Everything is usually in one Photos app, but downloaded videos might be in Files app
How to Share Your Videos
Want to send that video to someone? Easy.
Android:
- Open Gallery
- Find your video
- Click “Share” (arrow pointing outward)
- Choose who you want to send it to (WhatsApp, email, etc.)
- The video will upload and send
iPhone:
- Open Photos
- Find your video
- Click the share icon (arrow coming out of a box)
- Choose the app or contact
- Send it
Important: Videos are big files. If the video is really long or high quality, it might take time to send over WiFi or data.
How to Organize Your Videos
If your gallery is a disaster, let’s create some order.
Create Video Albums:
Make separate albums for different types of videos: family, events, funny moments, work stuff.
Android: Gallery → Menu → Create Album → Select videos only
iPhone: Photos → Library → “+” → New Album → Add videos
Mark Favorites:
Have videos you watch all the time? Mark them as favorites. Then you have a “Favorites” folder with just the good stuff.
Archive Old Videos:
Videos from years ago that you never watch? Move them to a separate archive album. Keeps your main gallery clean.
How to Edit Your Videos
You don’t need fancy software. Your phone has built-in editing tools.
Android:
- Open a video
- Look for “Edit” button
- You can trim (cut the beginning or end), adjust brightness, add filters
- Save the edited version
iPhone:
- Open a video in Photos
- Click “Edit” in top right
- You can trim, rotate, or adjust filters
- Click “Done” to save

How to Recover Deleted Videos
Accidentally deleted a video? It’s probably still there.
Android:
- Open Gallery
- Find “Trash” or “Bin” folder
- Video stays there for 30 days
- Click “Restore” to get it back
iPhone:
- Open Photos

- Find “Recently Deleted”
- Select the video and click “Recover”
After 30 days? It’s gone for real.
Videos in the Cloud
Videos take up a ton of space on your phone. That’s why cloud backup is your best friend.
Google Photos (Android):
Videos automatically back up to Google Photos (if you have storage). You can watch them anywhere, anytime.
iCloud (iPhone):
iPhone backs up videos to iCloud automatically. If your phone breaks, your videos are still safe.
This is important because a 1-minute video can be 50-100MB. That adds up fast.
Common Video Problems
Problem 1: “My videos won’t play”
The video file might be corrupted or in a format your phone doesn’t support. Try opening it in a different app or checking if it downloaded correctly.
Problem 2: “Videos are taking up too much space”
Videos are huge. Delete the ones you don’t need. Or better yet, back them up to the cloud and delete locally.
Problem 3: “I can’t find videos from a specific app”
WhatsApp videos, Instagram videos, TikToks – they sometimes save to separate folders. Check the app’s settings to see where videos are saved.
Problem 4: “The video is too big to send”
Videos are often too large to send via WhatsApp or email. Compress it first (your phone has tools for this) or use cloud sharing instead.
Backup Strategy for Videos
